چکیده

The L-critical parabolic-elliptic Patlak-Keller-Segel system is a classical model of chemotactic aggregation in micro-organisms well-known to have critical mass phenomena [10, 8]. In this paper we study this critical mass phenomenon in the context of Patlak-Keller-Segel models with spatially varying diffusivity and decay rate of the chemo-attractant. The primary tool for the proof of global existence below the critical mass is the use of pseudo-differential operators to precisely evaluate the leading order quadratic portion of the potential energy (interaction energy). Under the assumption of radial symmetry, blow-up is proved above critical mass using a maximum-principle type argument based on comparing the mass distribution of solutions to a barrier consisting of the unique stationary solutions of the scale-invariant PKS. Although effective where standard Virial methods do not apply, this method seems to be dependent on the assumption of radial symmetry. For technical reasons we work in dimensions three and higher where L-critical variants of the PKS have porous media-type nonlinear diffusion on the organism density, resulting in finite speed of propagation and simplified functional inequalities.

Local and Global Well-Posedness for Aggregation Equations and Patlak-Keller-Segel Models with Degenerate Diffusion

Recently, there has been a wide interest in the study of aggregation equations and Patlak-Keller-Segel (PKS) models for chemotaxis with degenerate diffusion. The focus of this paper is the unification and generalization of the well-posedness theory of these models. We prove local well-posedness on bounded domains for dimensions d ≥ 2 and in all of space for d ≥ 3, the uniqueness being a result ...

Cross Diffusion Preventing Blow-Up in the Two-Dimensional Keller-Segel Model

Abstract. A (Patlak-) Keller-Segel model in two space dimensions with an additional crossdiffusion term in the equation for the chemical signal is analyzed. The main feature of this model is that there exists a new entropy functional, yielding gradient estimates for the cell density and chemical substance. This allows one to prove, for arbitrarily small cross diffusion, the global existence of ...

Volume effects in the Keller-Segel model: energy estimates preventing blow-up

We obtain a priori estimates for the classical chemotaxis model of Patlak, Keller and Segel when a nonlinear diffusion or a nonlinear chemosensitivity is considered accounting for the finite size of the cells. We will show how entropy estimates give natural conditions on the nonlinearities implying the absence of blow-up for the solutions.

A finite volume scheme for the Patlak-Keller-Segel chemotaxis model

A finite volume method is presented to discretize the Patlak-Keller-Segel (PKS) model for chemosensitive movements. On the one hand, we prove existence and uniqueness of a numerical solution to the proposed scheme. On the other hand, we give a priori estimates and establish a threshold on the initial mass, for which we show that the numerical approximation convergences to the solution to the PK...

The one-dimensional Keller-Segel model with fractional diffusion of cells

We investigate the one-dimensional Keller-Segel model where the diffusion is replaced by a non-local operator, namely the fractional diffusion with exponent 0 < α ≤ 2. We prove some features related to the classical two-dimensional Keller-Segel system: blow-up may or may not occur depending on the initial data. More precisely a singularity appears in finite time when α < 1 and the initial confi...
